Dandelions, a Way to a Mama’s Heart

Mamas, it may sound silly, but my favorite kind of flower is indeed the dandelion. In fact, I have waited my whole life for my dandelion bouquet. No, not because I truly think they look and smell the best. The lifespan of one in a glass of water is usually only a couple of hours and I am then left with nothing more than a couple of lifeless stems.

The reason is simply because it is a flower given to me from the heart. The heart of my 2, almost 3 year old son. He will stop playing with his beloved trucks anytime his eye catches the yellow glow of one in the grass. He will run over with excitement and pick the whole cluster. I will see him run to me as fast as he can, one arm pumping just to see his mama beaming with joy when he presents her with the bouquet.

Mamas, just stop and think how you react when you receive your bouquet of dandelions. It truly melts my heart. I thank God for sending me this sweet little boy with a huge heart. This is one of his first acts of chivalry. They say how a son treats his mom is how he treats his wife. Remember the same heart that gave you those dandelions is the same one that will treat his partner with love someday.

So the next time you receive that cluster of what we view as weeds, think of that huge heart inside that little man. You are preparing him for the future love of his life.
